Outside the Danish Embassy in Tokyo, sheltered by green vegetation and the embassy building, is a plastic replica of Harald Bluetooth’s rune stone in Jelling. The images have been reproduced but not the full text. The replica was produced by the National Museum in Denmark for a Viking exhibition, which ran in Tokyo and other Japanese cities in 1975-76.

The exhibition was sponsored by Japan’s largest news agency, Kyodo News Agency, and arranged with the cooperation of the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde. When the travelling exhibition closed, the replica was donated to the Danish Embassy in Tokyo. It was placed in front of the building in which the Embassy was located at the time, but moved, along with the Embassy, to its present address in Tokyo in 1979.
